Young Women Talk
About Value of Mentors
Katy Wagner, chairman of the District LWML Young Women's Committee, received the following comments from young LWMLers regarding their experience with mentors. Who is mentoring the young women in your congregation?

From Linda Juul, Two Rivers, WI
I do have a very good friend who shares my faith. We attend church and church functions together because our husbands do not.  She invited me to Bible study when things seemed to be caving in on me. We share the happy times and the sad.
We enjoy stamping, scrapbooking, our Red Hat Society group, shopping, and getting  together with our families. Currently we have agreed to be responsible for teaching my grandson (& her nephew) about Jesus.
At first it seems strange that we are friends........but it is part of God's perfect plan. Debbie's younger sister passed away about 18 years ago and I ended up marrying her brother-in-law.  Fortunately we are best friends.

From Catie Welzen,McHenry, IL
Ruth Kruegar (SWD LWML VP for Human Care and Grants) introduced me to LWML and she supports me in my Christian walk. I learned how to be a good Christian woman by the examples she sets. We do the garage and craft sales, she was one of my Sunday School teachers, and we have church holiday parties together with the whole church. Also I know that if I ever need her, all I have to do is give her a call and she will listen to me and be there for me.

From Marie Adams, West Bend, WI
My special someone who God put beside me is Marsha Bieneke (SWD LWML meeting manager). She has introduced me to LWML and supported my retreats. I have been amazed at her generosity and care. She has taken the time to introduce herself and be a friend. I was very new to our church when I met her which was a blessing. She took me under her wing and invited me to my first retreat where I learned about God’s gift of friendship. She has taught me a lot about caring for others. She leads me to peace and contentment. I thank the Lord for sending someone so special into my life. She gives a lot to me and has taught me to give to others.

From Amanda Buck, Sheboygan, WI
My mentor is my mother (an active LWML member and former missionary). I have learned so much about what is really important in this life--serving God and others, spreading the Gospel and putting others first from her. I like talking, cooking, walking, playing games, going shopping, watching movies, and reading with my mother. She is an amazing Christian role model; she is inspiring, encouraging, and always loving and patient. She is funny and caring. She is also a wonderful example of the mother I hope to be someday.

Deb Kinne, Teen LWML Chairman,
Named to National LWML Committee

Deb Kinne of Neenah (zone 15), Teen LWML chairman for South Wisconsin, has been appointed to the national LWML committee that will guide the development of "Friends Into Serving Him."
The mission of "Friends Into Serving Him" is to assist each young woman of the LCMS in affirming her relationship with the Triune God so that she is enabled to use her gifts to reach out to the people of the world.
In other words, a "Friends Into Serving Him" group enables young women to work together to further God's kingdom through mission-related activities on all levels:  local, district, state, national and international.
This national organization is open to teen women ages 15-18 who are members of an LCMS congregation or who are in the process of becoming an LCMS member.
The group will have its own web site with resources for members and a companion prayer book/journal to be used in conjunction with the web site material. In addition, there will be a designated section for Teen LWML in each issue of the LWML Quarterly, with information and articles just for teens. Also soon to be available are  informational postcards and brochures, sweatshirt hoodies with the Friends Into Serving Him logo, an Italian charm, a journal and a hobo bag (a smaller sized backpack).

First South Wisconsin Group Started in Neenah
In South Wisconsin, Deb Kinne has begun by forming a group in her own church, Trinity, Menasha. It now includes girls from two neighboring LCMS congregations also. Already they have gathered school supplies for U.S. troops to deliver to Iraqi children, participated in a work weekend at Camp LuWiSoMo, made quilts for a children's hospital in Neenah, and served dinner to 30 people at a Habitat construction site. The quilts were delivered during a Christian story-telling visit to the hospital.
Assisting Deb Kinne are several women from her church, who, when they heard about this new initiative of national LWML, volunteered to help....and a few of them are not even LWMLers!
SWD LWML President Carolyn Blum hopes that this will be a catalyst to getting some 'older-than-teenagers' Lutheran women to become involved with LWML, too!  Deb is also be assisted by her 14-year old daughter, Angela.
Deb and her subcommittee members will be working under the direction of the district LWML Leader Development Chairman.

For More Information

Deb can be reached at 949 Bridgewood Drive, Neenah, WI, 54956, or by calling 920-720-5925.
NOTE:  The previously announced sorority name for Teen LWML will not be used because a group in Texas has legal rights to that name.
