Lutheran Women in Mission met across the nation June 17-20, 2010. Eight LWML district conventions were held during these busy days.
July 5, 2010. ADRIANE DORR JOINS THE LUTHERAN WITNESS STAFF.

Adriane Dorr began work on June 21, 2010, as the managing editor of The Lutheran Witness with The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) Board for Communication Services. Adriane is a published author and was the Christian Life Editor for the Lutheran Woman’s Quarterly from 2005 to 2009.
In addition to her Quarterly work for the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML), Ms. Dorr has served as assistant editor and then managing editor of Higher Things magazine. She has written articles for Portals of Prayer and The Lutheran Witness. Adriane received a Master of Arts degree from Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne in May 2010. While on the seminary campus, she held several administrative positions, served as a copy editor for Life of the World and other publications, and assisted with other editorial projects.
This busy Lutheran Woman in Mission shares in an article from the LCMS Reporter newspaper: “I’m humbled to be joining such a talented and dedicated team at The Lutheran Witness, which has been influential in sharing the Gospel with the people of the LCMS for generations. It is my hope that this publication will continue to thrive as the leading voice in teaching future generations to contend for that same faith.”
“The LWML is thrilled to learn that Adriane Dorr is serving as the new managing editor of The Lutheran Witness,” congratulates LWML President Janice Wendorf. “She will continue the standard of excellence that this publication is known for in our church. While serving on the staff of the Lutheran Woman’s Quarterly for four years, Adriane’s skill in writing and editing was invaluable. May God bless her in this new endeavor as she continues to use her gifts and skills in serving the Lord and His church.”

SOUTH WISCONSIN DISTRICT LWML ANNOUNCES ITS MITE GOAL OF $200,000. At its convention on June 19, 2010, the delegates took a step of faith and approved raising the mite goal from $195,000 for the 2008-2010 biennium to $200,000 for the 2010-2012 biennium.
The Executive Committee had suggested setting the new goal at the same level of $195,000 since we were more than $12,000 short at the beginning of June. When the Board of Directors met on June 18, in spite of the deficit of funds, the women reached out in faith and adopted the higher goal, trusting that God would provide the funds to pay for all the mite projects.
Our new goal is $200,000; that means that $150,000 will stay right here in the South Wisconsin District and all of it will go to mite projects as no mite funds are used for administration. Fifty thousand dollars will be sent to national for our national mite projects.
MORE GOOD NEWS - WE HAVE MET OUR GOAL FOR 2008-2010.
God has blessed us richly and provided more than we asked. Right now we have an overage of $2,568.83 in our mite account. A check in the amount of $1,298.00 will be sent to Theological Education in Kazakhstan which will go to help pay the balance requested originally by them. Any amount over that will go to help with the national mites for 2009-2011.
PRAISE GOD FROM WHOM ALL BLESSINGS FLOW!
NEW FROM NATIONAL - Need a lift in your day? Have just a few minutes to connect with the Eternal God? Listen to this beautiful musical rendition of Psalm 141.
Attention Society Treasurers! Do not continue to send your Mites to Janis Mattson. Our newly elected Financial Secretary is Bonnie Sanders. Send your Mites to Bonnie at 690 Emerson Avenue, Ripon, WI 54971.
Attention!!! Check out the new and improved Lutheran Women's Quarterly. It’s RELEVANT for all of us!!!
It has articles written by teens for teens, articles written by young women for young women and missionary stories for women of any age. It has Bible studies, devotions, prayers, and stories of very extraordinary things done by ordinary women through the working of our Mighty God.
Picture it being read by your friends and family because it will be inspirational to them. Yes, it will appeal to women that are Lutheran but also to women of God in any denomination and even those who are searching.
Imagine sending a subscription to your friend that you have known for years or your sister in law or your next door neighbor. Let them be touched by the Word of God while reading about what women are doing all over the earth. Four colorful issues per year for just the cost of a greeting card.
Quotes from readers:
“In this age of going green, it’s the one magazine I read from cover-to-cover and file away for future use.”
“I send gift subscriptions to the Quarterly instead of a greeting card; it actually costs less and provides so much more than a card. Home delivery four times a year brings the recipients my greetings every 3 months!”
“I use the Quarterly as an inspirational tool when I travel; it causes people sitting next to me on planes to ask questions, thus opening the door to witness Jesus to them.”
Yes it is a tool for us in a very common way that can work miracles. President Wendorf has urged us to, "Be in the word, Be of the word and walking with the Lord."
This new look of the Lutheran Women's Quarterly will help us do that and we will enjoy it with many of our sisters in Christ. Look for the new issues coming soon!

READ THROUGH THE BIBLE IN TWO YEARS. At the convention this year, President Jan challenged each of us to read through the Bible in the next two years. 57 people have accepted that challenge. If you did not have a chance to sign up at the convention or if you were not able to attend the convention and would still like to join us, please send an e-mail to Jan Dankwardt and she will put you on the list.
FIRST TIME ATTENDEES AT CONVENTION. The Lord blessed our SWD-LWML with 53 first time attendees at our convention on June 19. Thank you so much for joining us and taking part in the most exciting part of our LWML, choosing our grants and choosing our officers. We look forward to your input as we move forward in the direction that the Lord is leading us. Serve the Lord Enthusiastically!
April 2010 Mission Trip to Mission Central and Orphan Grain Train. In the early morning hours of April 29th, with overcast skies, 38 LWML women (plus one brave man, Rev. Wilfred Grieser!) headed for Mission Central in Mapleton, Iowa and Orphan Grain Train in Norfolk, Nebraska. Even though the weather was gloomy, spirits were high as we traveled I94 West, on our Discovery Coach bus, with our driver David.
Authors of New LWML Book on Mission Grants Seek Stories. Are you a missionary who has seen or experienced the benefits of an LWML grant in Africa, Europe, or Asia? Have you ever visited a country on these continents and personally observed the results of one or more national LWML grants? Do you know of a former missionary who has a story to tell?
If your answer is yes, then your help is needed. Authors Janice Brauer, Lauren Beale, and Marlys Taege are collaborating on a new LWML book that will share how the Lord has blessed our mission grants on those continents. These authors know what was done with the mission grant money, but they need stories — stories of people who benefited and changes that took place in lives or communities because of those mission grants. If you have a story or special memory, please e-mail them as follows:
Your help will be deeply appreciated and appropriately acknowledged. If you know of someone who has a story to tell but who does not have e-mail, please ask them to call 414-357-6672 for a mailing address where they can send the story.
