Look to the Hills - God Reigns! Follow the link below to see the beautiful banner that our SWD President Jan Dankwardt will be carrying in the procession at the national convention in June. The banner was designed and sewn by our VP of Human Care and Mission Grants, Linda Christensen.
Spring Cleaning For Jesus Pak Materials Needed: All unused Lutheran Christian materials used in LWML members' congregations. Plus Christian coloring books and crayons and, of course Bibles. We have two teams - one at Gospel and one at Mission of Christ - that are working to saturate Milwaukee's Inner City with the Gospel good news via these packs to families and children. Contact Pastor Vic Fischer if you have questions.
Pastor Fischer requests that we contact him directly to arrange pickup of materials. The need for the children's Christian coloring books, crayons, and Bibles is great and your donations are greatly appreciated.
LWML Women Exceed Biennial Mission Grant Goal.
ST. LOUIS, MO — The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League has exceeded its $1.7 million mission grant goal for 2007-09 by $75,730.17, with the help of a recent anonymous memorial gift of $100,000. The mite goal, which helps support missions all over the nation and the world, was reached through generous contributions from members of the organization’s 40 districts.
LWML President Janice Wendorf rejoiced at the women’s unwavering dedication to missions: “In the midst of these uncertain times, God’s people have responded and supported the mission goal of the LWML for the 2007-09 biennium. Thanks to all the districts and individuals who have sent special offerings and gifts.”
The 18 mission grants the LWML has supported for 2007-09 were chosen by delegates at the organization’s last biennial convention in 2007. Projects range from supporting a soup kitchen in Chicago to funding portable medical clinics in Sudan. Delegates at the next LWML convention, to be held June 25-28 in Portland, Oregon, will adopt a new mission goal for the 2009-11 biennium and choose new mission grants to receive funding.
The president of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, Dr. Gerald B. Kieschnick, congratulated the LWML on exceeding its mission goal: “What a blessing from the hand of the Lord, made possible, humanly speaking, by the generous hearts of some of His most precious children — the wonderful women of the LWML!”
In addition to contributing 25 percent of funds to national grants, all of the districts also support their own mission projects, which are estimated to total more than $6.5 million for the 2007-09 biennium. To find out more about LWML mission grants, visit www.lwml.org.
The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) is the official women’s auxiliary of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. For over 65 years, the LWML has focused on affirming each woman’s relationship with Christ, encouraging and equipping women to live out their Christian lives in active mission ministries and to support global missions.
With all thanks and praise to God, our SWD LWML Grant #4, $15,000 to support the food pantry on the campus of Ft. Wayne Theological Seminary, has been paid. Shown in the picture below is President Jan Dankwardt presenting the check to Karen Fuelling, Director of the Food & Clothing Co-op and Rev. Timothy Puls, Assistant VP of Church Relations for the Seminary.
Our God is so good. Even amid these troubled economic times, He enables us to keep funding our mite projects.
Grant Proposals and Officer Candidate Information available. National has published the grant proposals and information regarding the candidates for national LWML offices that will be chosen at the convention in June. Links to both are found by clicking the "LWML 33rd Biennial Convention" link in the purple link bar at left.
The deadline for submitting information for publication in the Mission Lamp has been changed to the 5th of every odd month, for publication in the next odd month's issue. For example, to be included in the July/August 2009 issue, submit your story by May 5 to Lori Kleinschmidt, editor.
Thanks to the many, many women of our District who donated embroidery floss, needles and scissors for Carolyn Blum to take along on her mission trip to Kyrgyzstan May 5th through the 20th. Carolyn reports that she has all that she can take with her in her suitcase now, so no need to send any more.
The women of Kyrgyzstan and all of the mission trip team members truly appreciate your generosity in supplying floss. The beauty of the colorful floss as the women make their banners will brighten their rather drab lives.
Now is the time for prayer; pray that the women will respond favorably to the retreats that the team members offer, that our team works with servant hearts and that they prayerfully follow His lead. Also pray for the health and safety of all who travel and attend the retreats. Remember, "Goers" are supported by the "Senders" who cover the trip with prayer. Both groups are needed.
LOOK! Look at the calendar! Only two months until we hear the majestic music of the opening service at the 2009 LWML convention in Portland, until the beautiful district banners triumphantly enter the assembly hall, and until we join with thousands of our LWML sisters in prayer and praise to Look to the Hills…God Reigns.
